ᚱᛖᛖᛋᛖ ᛒᚢᚱᚾᛋ My most anticipated album of 2018 wasn’t The Shadowed Road by Sojourner. It wasn’t Cult of a Dying Sun by Uada. Hell, it wasn’t even They Often See Dreams About the Spring by the mighty Drudkh. It was Where Birds Sing My Name by Twilight Fauna. Conceived as a continuation of the stories and themes found on The Year the Stars Fell (an album I hold in very high esteem), WBSMN shot to the top my of must-hear list the moment it was announced.
The soul of the mountains and their people are alive in everything Twilight Fauna does, and listening to their albums is like stepping into a dark, depressing yet bleakly beautiful pocket of the world, completely forgotten by the rest of the world. Starting at album number one, it’s very easy to track this band’s impressive development and growth, and if they continue on the same trajectory they always have, Where Birds Sing My Name is going to be something very special indeed.

darkly soothing Favorite track: Twilight Fauna - November's Cold.

Dave Aftandilian When you hear the trad banjo and fiddle on the opening track, you know you’re in for a uniquely American black metal experience. What if the Appalachian mountains whose tops have been chopped off in our greed to mine coal could scream? What if the tears of those whose loved ones are gone and whose homes echo with emptiness could turn into music? Then they might sound like Twilight Fauna’s alternately raging and melancholy black metal madness on _Where Birds Sing My Name_.
Matthew Arnold

Matthew Arnold Good stuff here. I hail from the same part of the U.S. as this artist (that being the southern Appalachian mountains), and he really captures an ambience in the air there this is difficult to define, but apparent to those who know the area. Moody and atmospheric, with some extremely competent bluegrass thrown in. If you like Panopticon (and you should), throw this on when you're feeling a touch more contemplative.
